Jordan’s E- Commerce is worth $2 billion

The value of e-commerce in Jordan amounted to $2 billion, representing the different payments through cards issued by financial institutions.
"This figure is modest compared to the countries in the Region," said Amjad al-Sadiq, Chief Operating Officer of Network International in Jordan. "The percentage in the Region ranges from 25 to 40 percent," he said, pointing out that Jordan has the necessaries components to stimulate electronic payments and rise the percentage of e-commerce in terms of education and infrastructure, in addition to the banking services.
He drew the attention on the importance of electronic payment in the economy and its contribution to the formal economy as well as in the re-employment of funds in different sectors, and he further emphasized its role as a tool to reduce the shadow economy and tax evasion.
Mr. Amjad revealed the existence of approximately 14 billion cards used in the world and distributed among International Companies, from which 4 million are issued through various Jordanian banks.
