Figures from the Central Bank of Lebanon showed that expatriate remittances to Lebanon reached $ 7.1 billion in 2017, a decline of 7 percent from $ 7.6 billion in 2016.
These figures include employee remittances, as well as employee compensation, according to the World Bank's definition of expatriate remittances.
The remittances of expatriates to Lebanon in 2017 reached its seventh highest level between 2002 and 2017, with the highest level of $ 7.6 billion in 2016 and the lowest level of $ 2.54 billion in 2002.
The remittances reached an annual rate of $ 6.3 billion between 2002 and 2017, but rose from an annual rate of $ 4.8 billion between 2002 and 2007 to an annual rate of $ 7.21 billion between 2008 and 2017.
