Qatar Tourism Authority President and CEO of Qatar Airways Group, Akbar al-Baker, revealed that Qatar received more than one million visitors until last August, stressing that "the growth is accelerating and strengthening with the approach of the start of the FIFA World Cup on November 20."

Al Baker considered, "The tourism sector is the pillar of future economic development across the world, and while the tourism sector promotes the growth process and stimulates public and private entities, the sector's future must be sustainable in order to maintain its growing influence."

He stressed that “the State of Qatar is witnessing a remarkable recovery in the sector, and has opportunities and momentum towards a more environmentally friendly, smarter and safer tourism, as many future attractions have been built across the country with sustainability in mind, which enhances its attractiveness to environment-conscious travelers.”

The tourism sector in Qatar is growing steadily after the easing of travel restrictions, according to the latest quarterly report issued by the Qatar Tourism Authority, at a time when preparations for hosting the World Cup are continuing.
