Revenues from the tourism sector in Morocco declined by 58.1 percent in the first half of this year, compared to the corresponding period of 2020.

According to a report issued by the Directorate of Studies and Financial Forecasts (governmental), tourism revenues amounted to 8.8 billion dinars (about one billion and 35 million dollars) in the first six months of 2021, down from about 18 billion dinars in the corresponding period of 2020.

On a monthly basis, the tourism revenues increased by 15.2% last June, compared to the previous May, benefiting from the gradual reopening of the Kingdom's borders which started in mid-June.

The tourism sector was among the most affected sectors by the Corona pandemic in Morocco, which prompted the Moroccan government to provide support to institutions affected by the total closure imposed by the authorities last year.
