Qatar's Trade Balance Surplus Drops by 41.3%

Qatar's trade balance, which represents the difference between total exports and imports, recorded a surplus of 93.4 billion riyals (about 25.6 billion dollars) during 2020, compared to 159.3 billion riyals (about 43.7 billion dollars) recorded in 2019, a decrease of 41.3 percent.

According to the Planning and Statistics Authority on annual merchandise foreign trade statistics, the total value of Qatari exports last year amounted to 187.5 billion riyals, a decrease of 29.4 percent, which is equivalent to 78 billion riyals, compared to 2019, which recorded total exports of 265.5 billion riyals.

The value of Qatari imports during the year 2020 amounted to 94 billion riyals, a decrease of 11.5 percent compared to 2019, which amounted to 106.2 billion riyals.

Asian countries ranked first for the countries of destination for Qatari exports during 2020, as well as for the countries of origin for Qatari imports during the same year, accounting for 79.9 percent and 38.6 percent, respectively, followed by the European Union at a rate of 8.8 percent and 30.9 percent, then the Gulf Cooperation Council countries with a rate of 5.3 percent and 3.3 percent, respectively.
