A strong jump in Tunisian tourism revenues

Official figures showed that tourism revenues in Tunisia rose by 42.5 percent in the first half of 2019 to 692 million dollars compared to the same period last year.

The tourism sector accounts for 8 percent of the country's gross domestic product. The number of tourists visiting Tunisia increased by 16.7 percent in the first half of this year compared to the same period in 2018.

Tourism revenues in the Tunisian dinar increased by KD 1982 million, compared to KD 1,392 million in the first half of 2018. The official data showed that the number of tourists exceeded 3 million and 770 thousand tourists by the end of June, compared with three million and 233 thousand tourists during the same period last year.

The number of European tourists has grown by 22 percent, while the British market has grown by 119 percent compared to the first half of 2018. The number of tourists from the Maghreb countries has also increased by 18.3 percent.
