Surplus of Qatar's Balance of Payments Decline

Qatar's balance of payments surplus fell 1.48 percent year-on-year to 9.97 billion riyals in the first quarter of this year, according to a statement by the Qatar Central Bank.

In the first quarter of 2019, the current account surplus declined by 39.6 percent to 7.3 billion riyals due to a decrease in trade balance surplus by 41 percent to about 42 billion riyals, and the deficit of the account of income and current transfers increased by 8.2 percent to QR 15.1 billion, and the service account deficit by 87 percent to QR 5.7 billion.

According to Central Bank data, the surplus of the financial and capital account jumped by 411 percent to QR 5.78 billion, compared to 1.13 billion riyals in the first quarter of last year.
