Tunisia's Tourism Sector Achieves a 14.5% Growth

The number of tourists coming to Tunisia, according to the Ministry of Tourism, has reached 2.5 million since the beginning of the current year until the tenth of May.

The Tunisian tourism sector is able to achieve an increase of about 14.5% compared to the beginning of 2018. These figures are close to the expectations planned by the Tunisian tourist structures during the current tourist season. The increase contributed to the provision of some 1.2 billion Tunisian dinars (about $400 million), a recovery of 37.7 per cent on the level of financial returns from the tourism sector, which is one of the most important engines of the local economy.

The number of tourists from Europe has grown by 22.2 per cent and has been estimated at 512,000 European tourists. The French are at the top of the list, amounting to about 244 thousand tourists, this resulted a 19% increase of the French market.

German tourists came in second place with 54,000 tourists, with an increase of 23 per cent, while the arrivals from other European nationalities reached 214.3 thousand, an increase of 25.8 per cent compared to the results recorded at the beginning of 2018.
