The Jordanian Ministry of Finance announced that the total national debt reached 63.8 billion Jordanian dinars (about 89.8 billion dollars) by the end of last year.

According to the ministry, the total public debt amounted to about 28.3 billion dinars, of which about 25 billion dinars the central government debt (budget), and the amount of 3.3 billion dinars, a debt guaranteed by the government.

The debt, according to the Ministry of Finance, includes government and private sector debt at the end of 2018 at 22.2 billion dinars, and the net domestic credit granted to the government and the private sector is 35.2 billion dinars, while the domestic debt from non-banking sources is 6.4 billion dinars.

This standard differs from the public debt published in the Government's Public Finance Bulletin issued by the Ministry of Finance. The concept of the public debt published in the bulletin includes the central government debt within the general budget and the debt of the governmental units guaranteed by the government and it does not include the debt of the private sector and isn’t in line with the public debt law no. 26 of 2001, its management or its amendments, and is not in accordance with the International Financial Reporting Standards.
