Algeria’s President Approves 2019 Budget

Algeria’s President, Abdelaziz Bouteflika approved the upcoming 2019 budget and its accompanying regulatory laws.

The Expenditure Budget is estimated at DZD 8500 billion ($75 billion), and expected to grow by 2.6 percent with inflation at 4.5 percent, subsidy at 0.7 percent, and social transfers at DZD 1.77 trillion ($16 billion) compared to DZD 1.76 trillion for this year. Housing subsidies and Family Health accounts for 64 percent of the total subsidy budget.

The Government decided for the 2019 budget to return to Public Expenditure Rationalization Policy to control spending, after significant increase in expenditures this year, estimated at 21% compared to 2017. The Government postponed the decision to cut spending further to 2020 and 2021, as it is the year set by the Government to achieve a fiscal balance.
