Internal debt of Morocco’s Government reached 542.3 billion dirhams (57 billion dollars) at the end of August 2018, increasing by 4.4 percent year-on-year.
The increase is due to the rise in Moroccan Government borrowings in the form of new subscriptions over the past nine months at 75.3 billion dirhams ($7.93 billion), and due to repayment of old debt at 52.7 billion dirhams ($5.54 billion) during the same period, resulting in an additional Net Debt of 22.4 billion dirhams ($2.36 billion).
Morocco's internal Debt of due over five years accounted for 84.1 percent of the total Debt while the remaining 15.9 percent should be repaid within two years.
The budget achieved a positive balance of 30.2 billion dirhams (US $3.18 billion), which helped finance Government Investments at 38.1 billion dirhams (US $4 billion) during the period. The Government resorted to borrowing to supply the Investment Financing by 7.93 billion dirhams ($83 million).
