During his visit to Egypt, President Trần Đại Quang met with an Egyptian economic delegation led by Ahmed Al-Wakil, Chairman of the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce.
President Quang ensured during the meeting that "Vietnam has always valued the traditional cooperation and friendship with Egypt." He also expressed the hope that his visit would help lifting up the bilateral relations to new heights, adding that "economic and trade cooperation has not yet matched the potential of both sides, namely, the need to lift up the bilateral trade to US $1 billion by 2020."
He stressed that "Vietnam is ready to create optimal conditions to enhance the cooperation between the two sides," highlighting clearly the role of the federations of chambers in promoting economic trade relations.
For his part, Ahmed Al-Wakil stated that "the Egyptian business community is interested in the results of the current visit of President Trần Đại Quang after the historic visit of President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi last September, where the political framework supporting the opening of new horizons for fruitful economic cooperation was established." He explained that "the role now of the Chambers of Commerce and the private sector consist in transforming these political relations into economic relations in the best interests of the two countries."
Al-Wakil added: "In order to reach the target of one billion dollars in bilateral trade by 2020, it is necessary to enhance cooperation through exchange of visits, transfer of expertise and provision of information, especially in the fields of industry, agriculture, fish farms and information technology, which are promising sectors of cooperation between the two countries."
