Union of Arab Chambers participated in the activities of the Arab Forum for Sustainable Development 2025, which was held at the headquarters of the United Nations House "UN-ESCWA" in Beirut, under the patronage of the President of the Lebanese Republic, Joseph Aoun, and in the presence of the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, and organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) in cooperation with the League of Arab States and United Nations bodies operating in the region, under the slogan "Restoring Hope, Upholding Ambition".
A wide range of high-level representatives from Arab governments, the private sector, civil society, and academia attended the work of the three-day forum. The discussions aimed to assess progress in the implementation of the SDGs in the Arab region, discuss the challenges they face, and propose solutions to accelerate the implementation of the SDGs, focusing on five key goals: good health and well-being, gender equality, decent work and economic growth, life below water, and partnerships for the goals.
Within the activities of the forum, the economic advisor at the Union of Arab Chambers and sustainable development expert, Dr. Najoua Zhar, made an intervention in which she addressed the importance of promoting decent work as a key pillar for achieving inclusive and sustainable economic growth in the Arab region, with a focus on the challenges facing the region such as structural and geopolitical challenges, the incompatibility of educational programs with the requirements of the labor market, rapid technological development and the difficulty of keeping pace with it, in addition to the lack of confidence. between governments and the private sector. She also reviewed the role of the Union of Arab Chambers in supporting decent work policies, promoting partnerships between the public and private sectors, and encouraging innovation and digital transformation to enable all groups to enter the labor market with fair and sustainable opportunities.
The participation of the Union of Arab Chambers in this forum comes within the framework of its efforts to promote sustainable development in the region, and to contribute to advancing joint Arab action towards achieving sustainable development goals by 2030, especially in the field of decent work, which is one of the most important engines of economic and social growth. The Arab Forum for Sustainable Development will submit its main recommendations to the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development on the contribution of the Arab region to strengthening global efforts to achieve sustainable development.
