China has demanded that the United States immediately remove its latest tariffs and vowed to take countermeasures to protect its interests, following US President Donald Trump's announcement of comprehensive tariffs on all U.S. trading partners around the world.
China's Ministry of Commerce warned that the U.S. move ignores the balance of interests reached through multilateral trade negotiations over the years, and overlooks the fact that it benefits greatly from international trade. China will take countermeasures to protect its rights and interests, she warned.
Trump passed 34 percent tariffs on China in addition to the 20 percent he imposed earlier this year, bringing the total new tariffs to 54 percent and close to the 60 percent, he threatened during his election campaign.
