Gold prices rose slightly on Thursday to hover near an all-time high hit in the previous session after fears of an escalating tariff war between China and the United States boosted safe-haven demand. This comes as investors await jobs data for clues about the strength of the world's largest economy.

Spot gold rose 0.1 percent to $2,867.79 an ounce. The precious metal hit an all-time high of$2,882.16 in the previous session. U.S. gold futures fell 0.2 percent to $2,887.10.
