The U.S. consumer confidence index unexpectedly fell in December, according to new data, amid concerns about the impact of tariffs on the economy ahead of Donald Trump taking office.
Trump pledged during his election campaign to impose comprehensive tariffs on goods entering the United States, which many economists expect to have an impact on the cost of everyday goods.
The U.S. consumer confidence index fell to 104.7 points in December, after hitting 112.8 points last month. This was sharply below the unanimous market rate of 113.5, according to Briefing.com.
