The number of billionaires in the world decreased by 87 billionaires to 2,668 billionaires in the thirty-sixth annual ranking of Forbes magazine for the world's richest people, with a total wealth of $12.7 trillion, down $400 billion from what it was in 2021. China recorded the largest decline in the number of billionaires, after the government launched a crackdown on technology companies, as their number decreased by 87 billionaires, while Russia recorded a decline of 34 billionaires after the recent Ukrainian crisis.
However, the fortunes of more than a thousand billionaires are higher than they were last year, and 236 new billionaires entered the list.
The United States still leads the world in the number of the rich, with 735 billionaires with a total fortune of $4.7 trillion, including Elon Musk, CEO of “Tesla” and “SpaceX”, who topped the list this year for the first time, with a fortune of 219 Billion dollars, while China ranked second after the United States with 609 billionaires, with a total wealth of $2.3 trillion. Jeff Bezos, founder of the Amazon online retail empire, ranked second in the world, with a fortune estimated at $ 171 billion, followed by Bernard Arnault, in third place, who runs the “LVMH” fashion and fashion group, with a fortune of 158 billion dollars, then Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft, in fourth place, with $129 billion, and Warren Buffett, CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, in fifth place, with 118 billion dollars.
