Decrease in the Fiscal Deficit in Jordan

The Jordanian Ministry of Finance revealed a clear improvement in domestic revenue collections, rising by 315 million dinars, or 12.2 percent, compared to the same period last year. This increase came as a result of the increase in tax revenues by about 174 million dinars, and the increase in non-tax revenues by about 141 million dinars during the first quarter of this year, compared to the same period last year.

The total public revenues of the central government during the first quarter of this year amounted to 1851.7 million dinars, compared to 1571.3 million dinars during the same period last year, that is, an increase of 280.4 million dinars, or 17.8 percent, in addition to the increase in public expenditures during the first quarter of the current year, with a value of 107.4 million dinars, or 5.3 percent, compared to the same period last year.

And based on Jordanian financial figures, the fiscal deficit decreased by about 173 million dinars, to reach a value of 274 million dinars during the first quarter of the current year 2021 compared with the same period last year. Whereas, the balance of government debt, after excluding what was carried by the Social Security Investment Fund (SSIF) until the end of last March of this year, amounted to about 26.807 billion dinars, or 85.6 percent of the estimated GDP for the month of March, compared to A rate of 85.4 percent at the end of last year.
