Qatar achieved a trade surplus of 6.9 billion riyals (1.89 billion dollars) last August, representing a monthly increase of 10.7% over the previous month.
According to the Planning and Statistics Authority, the value of Qatari exports amounted to 14 billion riyals last month, an increase of 3.3 percent compared to July of this year. While the value of merchandise imports amounted to about 7.1 billion riyals, a decrease of 3 percent on a monthly basis. China ranked first in Qatar's exports with a value of 2.6 billion riyals, or 18.2 percent of total exports, followed by Japan by 2.2 billion riyals, or 15.8 percent, then India by 13.7 percent and 1.9 billion riyals.
The group of “regular aircraft parts or helicopters” came on top of the list of commodity imports, followed by a group of “electrical telephone equipment, including network transmitters and parts thereof,” then a group of “cars and other automobile vehicles designed mainly to transport people.” The United States of America topped the list of countries of origin for Qatar’s imports of 1.6 billion riyals, or 22.5 percent of the total value of merchandise imports, then China with 900 million riyals or 13.2 percent, followed by India with 5.7 percent and a value of 400 million riyals.
