Raise of the Qatari Commodity Trade Balance Surplus

According to official data released by the Ministry of Planning and Statistics, the commodity trade balance surplus of the State of Qatar in May rose by 3.5 percent on a monthly basis.

The balance of trade in Qatar (the difference between total exports and imports) in May registered a surplus of 13.56 billion riyals ($3.7 billion). While the surplus in the Qatari trade balance was 13.1 billion riyals ($3.6 billion) in April 2019.

On a year-on-year basis, the trade surplus declined by 8.9 percent last month, from 14.88 billion riyals ($4.13 billion) in May 2018.

According to the same source, the Qatari exports rose 2.9 percent to 22.75 billion riyals ($6.3 billion) from 22.11 billion riyals ($6.1 billion) in April.

The trade balance showed that imports rose 2.2% in May to 9.197 billion riyals ($2.6 billion) from 9.01 billion riyals ($2.5 billion) the previous month. The value of commodity imports declined during the month of May to reach about 9.2 billion riyals, a decrease of 7.6% compared to the same month of 2018, and rose 2.1% compared to the month of April.
