Roni Trabelsi, the Tunisian Tourism Minister said that "the tourism sector is on its way to recovery, as the tourist numbers are returning to pre-crisis levels."

Tourism accounts for about 8 percent of Tunisia's economy and employs 400,000 people, but has suffered years of unrest following the Arab Spring uprisings in 2011 and two attacks by militants on foreign tourists vacationing in Tunisia in 2015.

The tourism revenues jumped to $1.36 billion in 2018 and a record number of tourists visited Tunisia's reaching to 8.3 million arrivals from Algeria, Russia and other parts of Europe.

Trabelsi sees that "the year 2018 was a good year as Tunisia began to go beyond the crisis," pointing out that "the number of tourists who came in January and February of this year was actually better than the same period in 2010, before the Arab Spring."

He added: "the demand is still strong from the Russian tourists who quickly returned to visit Tunisia after the crisis, unlike the European tourists. We are keen to attract the British tourists to return and visit the country through campaigns with travel and tourism agencies."
