The Tunisian parliament began debating the 2020 budget under the supervision of an interim financial committee whose members have been proposed by the representative parties, coalitions, and electoral groups according to the numerical significance.

Rached Ghannouchi, the speaker of Parliament, oversaw the appointment of the Finance Committee, which will begin its first task to discuss the draft Finance Act 2020 and the state budget, as well as the supplementary Finance Project for 2019.

The Parliamentary Finance Committee is responsible for considering all matters related to currency, taxes, local and national taxation, trade exchanges, financial sector regulation, budget and development plans, and the committee headed by the opposition to review loans and financial pledges of the state as well as the activity of public institutions. The legal deadlines for approving the budget impose significant challenges to the new parliament by urging the consideration of three important bills before next December 15, amid expectations that the parliament will maintain the initial version of the budget worked by the government of Youssef Chahed, waiting for the formation of a new government which offers a second project proposal in accordance with its economic program.
