Unemployment Rate in Saudi Arabia Falls Down

Saudi Arabia's General Organization for Statistics (GSO) reported a decline in the unemployment rate in the first quarter of 2019 to 12.5 percent from 12.7 percent in the previous quarter.

According to the authority, the unemployment rate of Saudi males was 6.6%, while the unemployment rate in Saudi Arabia was 31.7% in the first quarter of 2019. The unemployment rate for the total population (Saudis and non-Saudis) decreased to 5.7% compared to 6.0% in the fourth quarter 2018.

The economic participation rate of Saudis in the first quarter was 42.3% compared to 42.0% in the previous quarter. The economic participation rate of Saudi women increased to 20.5% compared to 20.2% in the previous quarter. The economic participation rate of Saudi males rose to 63.3% % Compared to 63.0% in the previous quarter.

The total number of Saudi employees (males and females) rose slightly compared to the fourth quarter of last year, reaching (3,112,029). The total number of Saudis seeking work from the administrative records in the Kingdom for the first quarter of this year was 945,323 individuals.
