A report issued by Bank Audi for the third quarter of 2018 revealed a slowdown in the growth of the Lebanese economy. Most of the indicators of the real sector took a downward trend during the first nine months compared to the same period last year.
The continued slowdown in economic growth is associated with a state of uncertainty among private investors who are reluctant to invest in various economic sectors in Lebanon. Private consumption is still recording moderate growth this year, while the growth of government spending has provided little support for the country's economic growth.
Bank of Lebanon's general economic index stood at 309.2 on average during the first eight months of 2018, an increase of 1.8% compared to the same period of 2017. This growth in the general economic index is relatively slow compared to the average growth for the same period of five years past 3.4 percent.
