India's bourse has overtaken the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in terms of market capitalization to rank fourth globally, and its progress reflects growing optimism from global investors about India's economic opportunities, according to data published by Bloomberg.

The total market capitalization of companies listed on the Indian stock exchange reached $4300 billion, slightly surpassing Hong Kong's market capitalization of $4290 billion.

The shift in the global sequence comes after India's stock exchange experienced an exceptional year in 2023, boosted by increased retail investor participation as well as strong economic growth and increased liquidity.
