The United States of America has become the largest exporter of liquefied natural gas in the world for the first time, as the shipments it exported exceeded the exports of its main competitors, Qatar and Australia.

Bloomberg data showed that the United States exported 91.2 million tons of liquefied gas last year, which is a record export. The increase in production and exports last year came thanks to the restart of the natural gas liquefaction complex in Freeport, Texas, which had been idle for several months after a fire that broke out in it in June 2022.

On the other hand, Qatar's exports, which were the world's largest natural gas exporter, declined in 2022 by 1.9 percent over the past year, which is the first decline in its liquefied gas exports since 2016. Qatar ranked third in the list of liquefied gas exporters after Australia, which came in second place.
