A report issued by the World Bank showed that the Tunisian economy slowed in the first half of the year despite the recovery of the tourism sector, which is a key contributor to the country's growth.

According to the "Tunisia Economic Monitor Fall 2023 Report", Tunisia's economic growth rate in the first half of the year was 1.2 percent at an annual rate, half of what it was in 2022 and a quarter of what it was in 2021, the year of recovery after the crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the report, the Tunisian economy suffers from several negative factors, most notably "the ongoing drought, the challenges of external financing, the continued accumulation of domestic debts of the most important public institutions, and legislative obstacles."
