Moroccan Tourism Gains are Strengthening, Ignoring the Repercussions of the Earthquake

The Moroccan Ministry of Tourism revealed that the number of tourists during the first eight months of 2023 increased by 49 percent year-on-year, reaching about 10.2 million visitors.

According to the Ministry, tourism revenues, which are an important source of hard currency, amounted to 71.4 billion dirhams ($7.1 billion), recording an exceptional growth of 33 percent in an annual comparison.

The Minister of Tourism, Fatima Zahraa Ammor, confirmed that “the results reflect the strong attractiveness of the country’s tourist destination and the effectiveness of the proactive measures we have taken in the field of air transport and promotion, as well as with tour operators in key markets.” She considered that, “Despite the post-earthquake challenges, we are optimistic about the sector’s prospects for the remainder of the year. We are working closely with professionals in order to continue the strong development and growth that the sector is experiencing.”
