Qatar's Trade Balance Surplus is Down by 41 Percent

Qatar's merchandise trade balance surplus, which represents the difference between total exports and imports, decreased during August by 41 percent to 21.4 billion riyals ($5.87 billion) compared to the same period in 2022, while it increased by 8.7 percent compared to July.

Data from the Qatar Planning and Statistics Authority showed that Qatar's total exports, which include exports of local origin and re-exports, fell 32.9 percent to about 31.4 billion riyals on an annual basis, while it rose 8 percent on a monthly basis.

The value of merchandise imports also decreased by 4.8 percent to reach about 10.1 billion riyals compared to August 2022 and jumped 6.6 percent compared to last July.
