The Unemployment Rate in Saudi Arabia has Decreased

Estimates of the General Authority for Statistics in Saudi Arabia showed that the unemployment rate for Saudis decreased to 9.7 percent in the second quarter of 2022, a decrease of 0.4 percentage points compared to the first quarter of 2022. According to the authority, the total unemployment rate in Saudi Arabia for Saudis and non-Saudis decreased to 5.8 percent in the second quarter of 2022, by 0.2 percentage points compared to the first quarter of 2022.

The unemployment rate among Saudi males decreased to 4.7 percent in the second quarter of 2022, a decrease of 0.3 percent compared to the first quarter of 2022, and a decrease of 1.4 percent compared to the second quarter of 2021. The unemployment rate of Saudi females decreased to 19.3 percent in the second quarter of 2022, a decrease of 3 percent compared to last year and 0.9 percent compared to the first quarter of 2022.

The authority indicated that this decline with the expansion of the labor market and employment growth coincided with an increase in the labor force participation rate for Saudis by 1.5 percent to reach 67.5 percent, and the rate of Saudi workers in relation to the population increased by 1.6 percent to reach 64.3 percent.
