Khaled Hanafi: An Influential and Effective Role for the Arab Chambers to Achieve Economic Development

The Secretary-General of the Union of Arab Chambers, Dr. Khaled Hanafi, met in Cairo with the Secretary-General of the Arab-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Abdel Aziz Al-Mikhlafi, on the sidelines of the "Chambers' Capacity Development Symposium", which is organized by the chamber and aims to develop the capabilities of Arab chambers. Through training and transferring the expertise of the Arab-German Chamber to cadres in the Arab Chambers, which play a prominent and distinguished role in promoting the interests of the national economy, and representing the interests of the Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture in official institutions at the local and international levels.

The meeting touched on the reality and work of the Arab-German Chamber, its activities and its importance in terms of strengthening economic relations between the Arab world and the Federal Republic of Germany. Especially the Arab-German Economic Conference, which will be held during the period June 21-23, in its twenty-fifth session in a row.

Khaled Hanafi noted "the importance of the role played by the Arab-German Chamber in terms of strengthening economic ties and ties between Arab countries and the Federal Republic of Germany, enhancing communication and introducing opportunities for partnership and cooperation between economic institutions and businessmen on both sides."

Hanafi noted "the importance of this training course, in terms of capacity development and maximizing the efficiency of chamber members in the Arab Chambers Federations." Considering that "the chambers, which are the true representative of the private sector, have an influential and effective role in the field of economic development, and from this standpoint, these chambers must develop themselves to adapt to the changes taking place in the world, for this reason, the Union of Arab Chambers, in partnership and cooperation with Arab and foreign organizations, is keen to organize training courses that serve and interest our Arab economies.”

The Vice-President of the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce, Muhammad Al-Masry, and the Director of Arab, Foreign and Joint Chambers, Hoda Kashtan, a delegation from the Federation of Yemeni Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, and a delegation from the Federation of Lebanese Chambers participated in the training symposium.

On the sidelines of his official visit to the Tunisian capital, the Secretary-General of the Union met with the Minister of Economy and Planning Samir Said, in the presence of the President of the Tunisian Union of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts Samir Majoul.

The meeting was an occasion during which the two sides discussed the role of the Federation of Arab Chambers in promoting economic cooperation, especially at the level of investment, partnership and trade exchange between Arab countries.

Said indicated, in this context, that economic cooperation between Arab countries is still far below the available capabilities and opportunities. This requires greater efforts, especially by the private sector, to explore these possibilities, whether at the bilateral level or within the framework of strategic partnerships to move towards promising markets, especially the African market.

On this occasion, Said invited Arab businessmen and investors to attend the activities of the "Tunisia Investment Forum", which will be held on June 23-24.

For his part, Dr. Khaled Hanafi stressed that Arab countries are rich in important capabilities and capabilities that require more networking of economic interests, which the Union of Arab Chambers is working to consolidate through intensifying meetings and demonstrations to explore exchange and investment opportunities. He pointed to the possibility of organizing a conference for Arab businessmen and investors in Tunisia soon.
