Qatar: Decline of Commodity Trade Balance

Qatar’s merchandise trade balance recorded a surplus of 4.3 billion riyals in April, down by 8.6 billion riyals or 66.9 percent compared to the same month in 2019, and it decreased by approximately 3.4 billion riyals, or 44 percent compared to March 2020.

According to the data of the Planning and Statistics Authority on the merchandise trade balance of the country, which represents the difference between total exports and imports, the total value of Qatari exports (which includes exports of local origin and re-exports) is approximately 11.8 billion riyals, a decrease of 46.3 percent compared to the same month last year, while it decreased by 26.3 percent compared to March 2020.

The value of merchandise imports decreased during the month of April to reach about 7.5 billion riyals, a decrease of 17 percent compared to the same month in 2019, and this value also declined by 10.1 percent compared to March of this year.

Data for the month of April indicated that the value of exports (oil gases and other gas hydrocarbons) decreased by 45 percent, compared to the corresponding month of last year, to 7.6 billion riyals, while the value of (fuel and oils of continental mineral raw materials) decreased by 68.4 percent to approximately 1.2 billion riyals.
