IMF Upsurges its Forecast for the Algerian Economy

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) revised its forecast for Algeria's economic growth in 2019, forecasting a 2.6% growth versus a prior 2.3% growth in last April.

According to the International Monetary Fund's Global Economic Prospects report, Algeria's real GDP will grow 2.4% in 2020 (vs. 1.8% forecast in April). According to the IMF, Algeria's real GDP growth may fall to 0.8 percent in 2024.

Based on the same forecast, the current account deficit will rise this year to -12.6% of GDP (vs. -12.5% forecast in April).

On the other hand, unemployment will increase to 12.5% in 2019 (vs. 12.6% in April), with the increase continuing to 13.3% in 2020 (vs. 13.7% in April).

Algeria's consumer price index will be only 2% this year, compared to 5.6% in the IMF's forecast in April.
