The World Bank announced that Lebanon is losing momentum in its effort to form a government and reform the state's finances, putting it at risk of billions of dollars in aid to Lebanon.
"Lebanon does not have enough time to get funding, given the many other countries that need investment," said Saroj Kumar Jha, the World Bank's regional director. "If Lebanon does not move quickly, donors will start moving a lot of these resources to other places, so the danger is very real."
For his part, World Bank Vice President for the Middle East and North Africa Ferid Belhaj said that "Lebanon needs to make efforts," adding that "Lebanon's performance is bad compared to other countries in the region facing difficulties such as Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt."
"We are in touch with each of these countries and we see a level of commitment from governments and the private sector, and we do not see the same level here in Lebanon," he said.
