Tourism revenues in Morocco declined in the first nine months of 2018, despite the increase in the number of arrivals in this period, which was attributed by workers in the sector to the travel agencies reduction of travel prices in view of the competition between them, as well as the tourists’ reduction of their spending.
According to data from the Office of Exchange (Government), tourism revenues fell by 1.1% at the end of September last year from the same period last year to reach about 5.7 billion dollars. The decline in revenues came despite an 8% rise in the number of tourists on an annualized basis, after reaching 8.7 million tourists at the end of last month.
According to official data, the number of foreign tourists increased by 14 percent from January to the end of September, while the number of expatriates who visited their country increased by only 2 percent.
