Egypt’s President Requests to Continue Implementing the Economic Reform Program

Egypt’s President, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, called upon the Economic Ministerial Group to continue implementing the Comprehensive Economic and Social Reform Program through integrated institutional and legislative reforms as well as financial and monetary ones. These reforms aim at eliminating the structural problems of the economy by raising growth rates and reducing unemployment and public debt.
Al-Sissi stressed on the need to continue effective coordination between all Ministries and Concerned Bodies, and develop action mechanisms in the economic system to achieve the desired results under the current circumstances in Egypt, taking into account the possible developments at the regional and international levels.
Notwithstanding, macroeconomic indicators in Egypt were discussed during the meeting, including the GDP growth rate standing at 5.3 percent in the fiscal year 2017-2018, the unemployment rate falling to 9.9 percent, and net foreign exchange reserves rising to 44.4 billion dollars.
