Rise in Foreign Banks’ Assets in UAE

Share of foreign banks' assets rose for the first time in UAE, reaching 23.2 percent of the banking sector's assets.
According to the banking and monetary data issued by the Central Bank of UAE, foreign banks’ assets rose by 643.603 billion dirhams at the end of July, accounting for 23.2 percent of the banking sector’s assets, to reach 2.774 trillion dirhams.
From December 2017 to July 2018, foreign banks’ assets increased nearly by AED 64.6 billion with a growth rate of 11.2%, to reach AED 578.989 billion in December 2017.
Foreign banks in UAE account for 39 out of 61 banks operating in UAE, with 81 branches in the UAE, in addition to 21 e-banking units employing 5,588 persons and representing 15.8% of UAE bankers.
