Trade Deficit in Jordan Declined by 5%

The Department of Statistics in Jordan revealed that the value of exports during the first half of 2018 amounted to JD 2549.7 million, representing an increase of 2.0% compared to the same period in the previous year, 2017. On the other hand, the value of re-exports reached JD407.7 million, showing a decrease of 3.3% from 2017 whereas imports amounted to JD 6851.9 million, with a decrease of (2.5%) from 2017.
The trade balance deficit, which represents the difference between the value in total imports and the value of exports, reached JD 4302.2 million, during the first half of 2018, a decrease of 5.0% from the same period of the previous year. The ratio of total export coverage to imports was standing at 37.2% in the first half of the current year compared to 35.5% during the same period of 2017, an increase of 1.7 percentage points.
